Oneworld Works supports after school music programs for young people.
There have been serious budget cuts in the music programs at most local
schools.
Oneworld Works’ goal is to raise the community’s awareness of the
positive impact music participation has on young people. Recent
scientific studies prove that students who participate in music programs
are more likely to stay in school and go to college and are less likely
to get involved with gangs or drugs. These same studies show early music
education contributes to a child’s improved academic performance.
One of the most beautiful things we can give our children is music
education.
Oneworld Works also recognizes the pivotal role of music participation
on children’s educational and social development as well as its impact
on their self-esteem.
We believe that music is as important to students as reading and
writing. It teaches them confidence and allows for the expression of
their creativity.
Many kids have a tough time being able to afford instruments. Oneworld
Works intends to approach major music companies to request donations of
instruments for the students in the programs.
At the end of the school year, Oneworld Works will produce a music
festival featuring the students and professionals playing together. The
concert will also feature surprise guest artists.
The net proceeds from the concert will provide support for after school
music programs in Venice and greater Los Angeles.
